What is the price range of a fresh coat of paint on a car?

I am interested in spraying over my car. I called a guy and he hesitantly told me that it would cost about 1500-1700 depending if there are any dents, dings, and cracks in the car. He will be providing the paint also. Is this too much or sounds just right?What is the price range of a fresh coat of paint on a car?
Well there is a lot the guy is leaving out.... That sounds ok...but is he doing all the prep work to the car? sanding it all down? shooting the primer? then blocking it out?


how many coats is that of paint, will he be wetsanding in between coats. then that includes a couple shots of clearcoat?





You could look at his work, but the hard part is he could show you a $10k paint job that just looks good. Shooting the paint is the cheap part of it...all the prep work, sanding between coats, clear coat is how things add up fast.





Some places will even just give your car a heavy duty wash job on the paint and shoot it. It will look GREAT!! for about six months to a year maybe...before it all chips off!





Just do some research and talk to some of his past customers if you can....

Way too low for a decent paint job, roughly 50% of what I'd expect.





Between $3,000 - $4,000 would be typical of a good shop. I think Maaco paints cars for about $200 though. But you have to be OK with overspray on all the trim and windows, drips don't bother you either, do they?





You get what you pay for with body work. Don't shop for it based on price. Go by warranty, should be lifetime, previous work/recommendations, and always go to someone who is a member of the BBB and check BBB for complaints.
thats a great price if the guy is good, I just had mine painted a year ago and there was a little body work to do on it and it cost about $6,000 but it looks better than the factory job.
That sound much to cheap like maaco job. Poor quality and cheapest paint. Be aware. Usually they spray cars with handles, glass etc. and masking is not good ether.


Quality job starts at 4-5K and up.
not a bad price for quality work.....Try to stop in to see some of his finished work. Check with the better business office to see how he stands there.
