I need rust repair done to my 95 explorer and it could use a paint job.Anyone ever use Maaco for rust repair or paint. Was the experience good, done fast and at a good price?
With Maaco, the answer is ';you get what you pay for. I've had two experiences with them - one was a one-off repaint on an old Camaro, and another was an accident repair.
In the first case, they did a great job with the repaint, but after the fact I found it was a bondo-special type repair, with a little bit of polyester resin covering a multitude of sins. The accident repair wasn't a bondo special, but I found their fit/finish on the repair to be inferior - they didn't take the time to properly match the body lines.
Although it sounds like I'm completely negative on them, I understand that, in both cases they did the work like any production-based shop would - by cutting the corners when they could. Make sure you ensure that they repair the rusted spots properly, and don't be shy about complaining or requiring them to perform their work properly.Anyone ever use Maaco for rust repair or paint. It is very expensive to repair rust damaged metal correctly and not every body shop is experienced in dealing with it properly. All of the rust has to be removed and metal corrosion prepping and coating inside and out. If the repair is not done correctly you have wasted your money because it will start to rust again soon ruining your paint job. Maaco offers a low price service for people who accept imperfection. Rust repair on high value classic cars is usually performed on a time and material cost basis.
Fenders and doors can be replaced, but if rust through is in quarters the cost of proper repair might not be cost wise considering the value of your vehicle.
