Your best bet is to buy a small roll and learn how to stretch it- it's easy! Have a friend show you.
If you paint even a dozen paintings it will probably be paid for, and then you have all that extra canvas waiting for inspiration. Or, you could just tape it to a board, and if it turns out you could stretch it.
