a few days ago i purchased a can of spray paint for 1.99 and it was really bad, always drips down but not sure it was my fault or not since i suck at it, is there a difference between price and quailty and what does ';ultra flat'; mean on a can of spray paint? thanks alot. oh and if you can, please suggest me what kind of paint is best used on plastc.Does the price of paint effect its quailty?
Within reason there isn't much difference. Flat means that there is no sheen to the paint (think wall=flat and shiny wood work=gloss) Eggshell is in between. The higher the gloss the easier it is to wash off dirt and scuffs.
My mom just repainted plastic laminate bookshelves and had great luck with Rustolium (sp?) high gloss. Go to a good hardware store and talk to the head dude who mixes colors (they've usually been there awhile).Does the price of paint effect its quailty?
Unfortunately, price usually dictates quality especially when the price is low. Cheap paint usually will result in a dissapointing appearance, or will be more difficult to apply to reach a satisfactory appearance. Also though, with some of the higher priced ';designer label'; paints ( and I won't name names ) you will find you have paid for the name only, and the paint will be no better in application or appearance.
Discuss your project with your paint dealer, and your experience or skill level in applying paint, because different brands will have different consistencies and some will be easier or more difficult for you to apply. Thicker is not always better. Beginners like it because it seems to cover better. But it can roll or brush unevenly, be too gloppy, or thick or thinner in places, and dry unevenly. Professional painters prefer a thinner paint as it rolls on faster and more evenly. A gallon will cover around 400 to 450 sq. ft instead of 300+/- from a thicker paint, and with a proper primer, it will not require more coats.
When painting plastic though, your paint consistency should not be too thin ( a cheap paint ) as it will run before it dries. Also overspraying one coat will make it run. Spray in light, even coats and don't spray too close to the plastic. Ask for a spray meant specifically for plastic, there are many.
';Ultra flat'; is a flat, matte finish so much so, it can appear almost dusty. It is almost impossible to clean off marks on it as well. If you are painting a dark or deep colour such as red or navy, do not use flat or ultra flat paints. Without a sheen for light play on the surface, it will not have the depth or richness of colour you're looking for. They will look grey and chalky without a sheen.
Good luck with your projects.
Price does effect quality, expensive high quality brands are thicker, so they cover better and run less. Higher quality spray cans have better nozzles to lay the paint on more evenly. Urtra flat is a sheen rating, flat paint is less shiny than semi-gloss or gloss. Krylon has a special paint for painting plastic. You can find it at Lowes or Home Depot
yes it does, its better quality for alot more price. but there is this site where you can get stuff a reasonable rates.
I think you should visit http://www.slahessential.com and get all the things you need for your home. You can get alot of things like vases, magazines, interior decorating, gardening, remodelling, houseware, kitchenware and alot more
When it comes to paint, you get what you pay for. The cheaper paints have poorer coverage and poorer nozzles. You don't need to buy the most expensive to get good quality paint, just don't buy the cheap stuff.
I always bought the cheapest and I never had a problem until one day they didn't have anything but the more expensive kind, and it stunk. The color was no where close and it wouldn't dry and it wouldn't spray right. Go figure. But with the house paint I always buy the best it is worth it. Don't buy cheap paint for the house you will just have to put on three coats or more to make it work. Good Luck
